February 11, 2018 at 7pm EST: Social Media Branding for Creatives (Download audio or video here)
Since 2011, I have built a successful brand around my identity as Feminista Jones– a writer, activist, public speaker, and all-around bad ass. How did I do it? What mistakes did I make? What lessons did I learn?
This 45-minute webinar will cover the basics of branding yourself and building a platform as a creative (writer, photographer, musician, visual artists, etc.) We’ll cover best practices for different social media platforms and the Dos and Don’ts of making your mark. There will be an additional 15-minute Q&A session.
March 18, 2018 at 7pm EST: Digital Strategies for Community Organizing
I’ve been an activist since 1998, long before we had access to global social media platforms. In this webinar, I will discuss how I have been able to harness the use of digital technology to not only support offline efforts but to orchestrate and organize global movements.
This 60-minute webinar will provide an overview of how to start a movement, build networks and connections, outreach supporters, document your process, and provide the best leadership and support as a community organizer in the 21st century.
April 15,2018 at 7pm EST: Self-Publishing via Amazon & Shopify
I’ve self-published two books, selling thousands of copies around the world. There is nothing like holding your own book in your hands and knowing that you have been published. Why wait for a company to decide that you should be in print when you can do it yourself?
This 45-minute webinar will focus on the step-by-step process of creating your book and making it available for sale online via Amazon and Shopify. It will not cover advanced marketing and promotions strategies.
May 13, 2018 at 7pm EST: In The Shadows: Unsung Women of the Civil Rights Movement
There are so many untold stories of women who actively contributed to the progress of the American Civil Rights Movement. Some of the names you know, you may not know their full stories. Others you may have never heard of, but you should know about their work.
This 45-minute lecture will cover the lives of 5 women without whom, the movement would have not been as fruitful and rich. There will be 15 minute Q&A at the end.
June 17, 2018 at 7pm EST: Hip-Hop Cinema
I began covering music and film as a writer several years ago. I’ve written about them for EBONY, Essence, SheKnows, and others. Hip-Hop culture is my life and writing is my passion. Couple that with my love of music and film and we have a perfect combination of expertise and passion.
We don’t talk about Hip-Hop cinema nearly enough, though it’s one of my favorite film genres. In this 60-minute discussion, we’re going to look at some of the most important films made about Hip-Hop culture, influenced by Hip-Hop culture, featuring Hip-Hop cultural icons, and documenting the stories of people who have been raised in Hip-Hop culture. There be time for questions throughout, as this webinar will be more conversational than the others.
July 15, 2018 at 7pm EST: Sexuality in the Golden Age of Hip-Hop (1987-1993)
One of my most popular lectures is on sex positivity in Hip-Hop culture. I want to focus more on sexuality during the so-called “Golden Age” of Hip-Hop, as I believe that was when Hip-Hop music and culture exhibited the most diversity.
This 45-minutes webinar will cover artists and songs that delved into sexuality and were all about sexual expression. This is going to be a fun one you don’t want to miss! There will be a 15 minute Q&A after.
